TCC Watermain Project Updates
What’s Happening In Your Street
Armadillo Civil is completing watermain upgrades throughout the City as part of the Tauranga City Council Watermain Upgrades Contract.
These upgrades will:
Improve water delivery reliability (old pipes can leak / break)
Maintain consistent water pressure
Maintain water quality
Reduce water waste (old infrastructure can leak)
Support future growth in the area
Below is an update on the current watermain works around Tauranga.
Residents in affected streets will receive notifications in their letterboxes throughout the entire process.
17th Avenue East to Cameron Road
We are currently in Phase 1 on 17th Avenue - Directional Drilling
Affected Areas:
Kiwi Crescent
Kia Street
Devonport Road between 17th and 16th Avenue
Fraser Street between 16th and 17th Avenue
The new watermain will be installed via directional drilling along the berm and footpath. Drills and diggers will be in operation. There will be excavations in the Council berm / footpath.
How this phase may affect locals:
Footpath closures
Traffic Management between 7am-5pm weekdays and occasional Saturdays
Digger & Drill operation between 7am-5pm weekdays and occasional Saturday
Excavation of the Council berm / footpath – temporary fencing or cones will be used to secure any open holes / trenches
Resident driveways will remain accessible for most of the project
At times, driveway access may be temporarily restricted for a few hours due to construction works
Our onsite crew will provide advance notice to affected residents whenever access disruption is expected
Estimated Timeline = 4 Weeks
Glasgow Street
We are currently in Phase 3 on Glasgow Street - Testing & Disinfection
The new watermain and all fittings are undergoing engineer pressure testing. This flushes, cleans and chlorinates the pipes in accordance with strict quality control standards. This is a crucial step in the process to ensure water safety and integrity.
How this phase may affect locals:
Traffic Management between 7am-5pm weekdays and occasional Saturday
Water Testing trucks onsite between 7am-5pm weekdays and occasional Saturday
Some excavations will be filled in, but some holes need to remain open for our testing team to access key points in the watermain infrastructure
Estimated Timeline = 2 Weeks
