What’s Happening In Your Street

Armadillo Civil is completing watermain upgrades throughout Tauranga City and Western Bay.

These upgrades will:

  • Improve water delivery reliability (old pipes can leak / break)

  • Maintain consistent water pressure

  • Maintain water quality

  • Reduce water waste (old infrastructure can leak)

  • Support future growth in the area

Below is an update on the current watermain works around Tauranga.

Residents in affected streets will receive notifications in their letterboxes throughout the entire process.

Sutherland Road, Judea - TCC

We have commenced Phase 1 - Drilling from #2 to #140 Sutherland Road, Judea

The new watermain will be installed via directional drilling along the council berm and footpath. We will endeavour to keep our footprint as small as possible and will maintain close communication with locals if their property is directly affected by the works.

How this may affect locals:

  • Footpath closures in your area

  • Active Traffic Management between 7am-5pm weekdays and occasional Saturdays

  • Inactive Traffic Management outside working hours

  • Digger, Drill & Truck operations between 7am-5pm weekdays and occasional Saturdays

  • Excavation of the Council Berm / Footpath – temporary fencing or cones will be used to secure any open holes / trenches

  • Residents’ driveways will remain accessible for most of the project, however if we temporarily need to restrict access for a few hours our onsite crew will let residents know a 24-48 hours beforehand

  • Estimated timeline for Phase 1 = 3 Weeks

We are also about to begin Phase 2 – Construction from #2 to #80 Sutherland Road, Judea

Now that the new pipe is in place, we will begin connecting all the pipework under the ground and installing new fittings. We will be installing fire hydrants, valves and other fittings within the TCC berm. We will also install a new connection for your property to the new watermain. 

How this may affect locals: 

  • Footpath closures in your area 

  • Traffic Management between 7am-5pm Weekdays and occasional Saturdays 

  • Digger and truck operations between 7am-5pm Weekdays and occasional Saturdays 

  • Temporary fencing and / or cones will remain in place to secure any open holes / trenches 

  • Your driveway will remain accessible for most of the project, however if we temporarily need to restrict access for a few hours our onsite crew will let you know a day or two beforehand 

  • Estimated timeline for Phase 2 = 6 weeks

17th Avenue Cameron Road to Historic Village - TCC

We are about to begin Phase 4 – Shutdown & Commissioning

This is when the switch over happens between the old watermain and the new watermain.  

To do this, we have to shut down the water supply to local properties for a short period while we switch you over to the new property connections. 

How this may affect locals: 

  • Locals will receive a separate letter advising exactly when the shutdown is planned in their area

  • Footpath closures in your area 

  • Traffic Management between 7am-5pm Weekdays and occasional Saturdays 

  • Some temporary fencing will be removed, but some will remain in place at key access points in the network 

Sutherland Ave, Mt Maunganui - TCC

We have commenced Phase 3 - Testing

Now that the new pipework is connected, we begin the crucial phase of testing the watermains to ensure the pipework is in working order and water quality is preserved. The pipework will be flushed and cleaned, and water will be sent for laboratory testing to ensure water safety.

How this may affect locals:

  • Footpath closures in your area

  • Active Traffic Management between 7am-5pm weekdays and occasional Saturdays

  • Inactive Traffic Management outside working hours

  • Water testing truck operations between 7am-5pm Weekdays and occasional Saturdays

  • Some temporary fencing will be removed, but some will remain in place at key access points in the network

  • Estimated timeline for Phase 3 = 2 weeks

Highmore Place - TCC

Highmore Place has moved into Phase 3 - Testing

Now that the new pipework is connected, we begin the crucial phase of testing the watermains to ensure the pipework is in working order and water quality is preserved. The pipework will be flushed and cleaned, and water will be sent for laboratory testing to ensure water safety.
